Participants who have booked on-campus accommodation must first collect the key to their room from Conference Reception (square 4 – marked on the map) and check into your room and leave your luggage. Conference Reception is open 08.00-20.00 daily. If you arrive after 20.00 your key will be left at the Information Centre which is open 24 hrs daily. Please note on session changeover weekends it will not be possible to collect your key before 2pm.


After settling into your accommodation, please make your way to the Summer School Office for check in/registration. The office will be open from 12.00-16.00 Saturdays and 11.00-18.30 Sundays for registration.
The Summer School office is situated in room NTC 1.03 follow the RED direction SIGNS marked “Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis” from square 4.

It is essential to collect your registration materials (timetable, computing password, course material etc.) These will only be given to you on receipt of full payment.

Payment: Any outstanding balance must be paid (in Sterling) on arrival. The Summer School will be unable to register you until full payment has been received.


Food: University accommodation is self-catering, which means that you will either have to cook all your own meals or eat out. There is also TESCO Supermarket within a 20 minute walk from your campus accommodation, however please note that it closes at 4pm on Sundays.

Books and printing: All essential material/readings will be available on registration for the course(s) you are registered to attend. The Summer School also does its best to ensure that books and articles recommended by the instructors are available in either the Summer School’s own library or the University’s main library. You will be able to access the University’s Library while on campus There is also a bookshop (Waterstones) on campus where many of the books are either in stock for purchase or can be ordered.

Sports Facilities: You will be entitled to use the sports centre whilst here.

Car Parking: campus car parking is free during the summer however you will need a permit to park in the university car parks. Please ask for a permit from the Conference Reception on your arrival.
