Courses are offered hybrid, online, or in person. The delivery mode for each course is listed below.
- Hybrid: Includes live sessions where on-campus and online students learn together.
- Online: Fully online with no in-person option.
- In Person: Taught at the Colchester campus with no online option.
Students must choose their mode by which they will study at the time of application. Courses take place in the morning or afternoon, British Summer Time (BST).

Data Skills Courses at ESS
This year, the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis is introducing Data Skills courses, featuring training in basic and intermediate data analysis for professionals, running from April to June 2025. This hybrid-format training (available online or in person) consists of three course clusters, each containing three two-day modules. Data skills courses are described on the Data Skills courses page. These applications are open until 5 March 2025.
